Garbage is specifically outlined in Penn Forest Township Ordinance 2-2021-STR. All occupants of our home are legally required to follow our posted rules for Garbage.
Guests are responsible for emptying all garbage from the house. We do not have curbside recycling pickup. Garbage pickup curbside every Tuesday.
We have bears in our community. You must follow ALL rules for garbage, including proper use of the garbage cans and bear deterrent straps, as well as how you put garbage out. Our neighbors do not appreciate trash spread out throughout our neighborhood... thank you for understanding and for complying!
Proper Use of Cans and Bear Deterrent Straps
Each can has 2 straps. You must use both straps.
Each strap has a locking plate and a clip. You must use both the locking plate and the clip on each strap (as shown in the video)
Garbage may only be placed outside if (all of the following):
No loose garbage: all items must be placed in a properly sealed bag and tied before being placed in the designated outdoor garbage cans (located in the “Bear Box”)
Materials must be level or below top of container.
Outdoor garbage can lids must be snapped closed. Also, use the steel straps on each outdoor garbage can to prevent animals from getting into them (the instructions are written on each lid).
The “Bear Box” gate must be latched closed at all times.
We have a weekly trash bag limit: crush cans and flatten materials to save space for all guests!
The following may not be placed in the garbage:
Car or Truck Batteries
Tires or Wheels
Liquid Wastes including:
Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners or Dehumidifiers
Car parts from under hood of car
